The History of the George Hotel

The George Hotel is more than a place to rest; it’s a living monument to Lviv’s storied past. Constructed between 1899 and 1900, the building’s design is the work of renowned Austrian architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, whose mastery of Neo-Renaissance style is evident in its intricate details. Officially opened on January 8, 1901, the hotel was named in honor of George Hofmann, the visionary entrepreneur who first conceived the idea. 

 The hotel’s façade is adorned with stunning sculptures by Leonard Marconi and Antoni Popiel, symbolizing the four continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, and America.
